Janna, week 7
This past week was a short week. They had no school on Friday. The seniors also left on their class trip so many of the students were distracted during class time and not very productive. The painting students were finishing up their watercolor unit. The drawing students were working on pen and ink drawings of birds and insects. Over all the week went smoothly. On Thursday I got to help paint the statue of the school mascot outside of the school. That was relaxing day in the art department. I only have about four more hours to go.

Jessie post #6
This week I was able to FINALLY teach in the classroom. On Monday I taught a lesson that introduce the project and addressed tool safety and procedures. it went really well and students were attentive and enthusiastic as we moved into the new project. It was entertaining to to watch the students as they timidly took out their plaster and began to carve. After a few cuts into the plaster, their jitters began to dissipate and their nerves subside. They dove head first into the project and made substantial progress on the first day. I taught again on Wednesday, talking about texture in sculpture and how it can be used to lead the eye through a piece of art. the lesson again seemed to go pretty smoothly and it was quite exciting to see how well the majority of sculptures were coming along.

Students have completed their testing and are now beging a plaster sculpture project. I will be teaching this lesson to another Art 1 class the following week. It is beneficial to see Mr. Ed teach the lesson before hand so I can get a good feel for the information that he would like to be included in the lesson. I was able interact with the students, going around and helping them as they work through the process of carving the plaster sculptures. This has given me great insight into how I will teach my lessons and interact with students as the proceed in their work.

Painting projects came to an end and Mr. Ed began to lecture on the next chapter in the class art book. During this time he introduced new vocabulary and ideas about art. The students will go through a week of lecture and then take a written test. During this time I get to observe another aspect of Mr. Ed's teaching style and see how he interacts with the students during lectures.

Janna, week 6
This week was a good week. I taught my lesson on Wednesday. Overall it went well. I think it was a lot in such a short amount of time. I think the students handled it pretty well. the hard part was the fact that the students are on so many different levels in that class. So some students were left a little bit more confused about my lesson. For the next time I will make sure to do a more thorough explanation about complementary colors. It challenged me to teach that class but I think it was a good learning experience for me.

Janna, week 5
This week I put in about 9 hrs.
On Monday I stayed for two periods. The Honors class is really at a point where they work on their own right now. So I helped out a little bit, but not much. After the honors class is drawing in color. Right now they are working with oil pastels. That class is a very lively bunch. I mainly walked around the room and offered help and answered questions.
Friday I taught a lesson to the honors class. I taught them how to draw a profile view of a person. The lesson went ten times better than my first lesson. I think the fact that I am more confident with a pencil and with drawing people have a lot to do with how well I did. I was teaching an area that I know a lot more about and I have had more experience. I felt way more comfortable with the camera and more prepared. The students seemed to really understand it. The only thing I had to repeat to everyone as I went around the room was to make the back of the head larger and put the ear in the correct spot. As far as management goes I did have to redirect some students to get back on track a couple of times.
One thing that Mr. Jones and I talked about was the fact that I need to work on my projection and my attention gaining voice. It always takes me a few tries to get every ones attention.
